About Mates in Blue
The Mates in Blue concept has been in place for a number of years, and has formally become an initiative of the Australian Federal Police Former Members Association Inc. (AFPFMA). The program was created to initially assist former AFP members who need a helping hand. Mates in Blue may:
assist those who need a hand with a particular task
visit sick or injured former AFP members who may or may not have someone to visit them
visit former AFP members on a regular basis who may be in a nursing home or hospital
provide a visible means of support in times of crisis
generally be there as a mate to support former AFP members
check in for a regular coffee catch up
accompany former AFP members on an outing or excursion
Please contact us below if you are willing to help,
or if you know of a former AFP member who is in need.
Please sign up and help!
The Mates in Blue program is open to current and former AFP members to assist, not just AFPFMA members. Others will be subject to AFPFMA approval. At present, people receiving assistance must however be former Australian Federal Police members living in Australia or overseas, subject to availability. Membership of the AFPFMA is not necessary to assist or receive a benefit from the Mates in Blue program.
It is hoped that one day the program will be rolled out nationally to all former members of state based Police forces.
