The AFP Former Members Association has organised a GoFundMe page for former AFP members who have been affected by the bush fires around Australia.

Tragically, there are a few former AFP members who have been affected by bush fires around Australia. It has been a terrible disaster for many members and their families. We are aiming to help ALL former AFP members effected by the fires, not just AFPFMA members.

One example of a former AFP member has been Dave and his family who evacuated their house in Cobargo NSW, in the early hours. He grabbed his catering equipment and headed for the showgrounds to help feed the volunteers and campers. While he was doing this community service, his family home was burnt down and he has lost everything.

We have since organised a caravan and generator for Dave and his family, which will be delivered as soon as the roads are open. Tonight’s 7.30 report features Cobargo and other communities devastated by the bush fires. https://iview.abc.net.au/show/7-30-bushfire-special.

Our relationship or contact to the parties we’re raising funds for.

This fundraiser was started by our National President Mike Doroshenko (who lives in Queensland) on behalf of the Australian Federal Police Former Members Association (Incorporated). We are aiming to help ALL former AFP members effected by the fires, not just AFPFMA members, all around Australia. Many of the former AFP members are actively fighting fires and helping their communities throughout Australia. This is our opportunity to give back to those who have helped for most of their working lives. Our President is in regular contact with those who have been effected by the bush fires and we are seeking former AFP members who may need assistance. How the funds will be spent.

A sub-committee of the AFPFMA will determine who and how much money will be given to each former AFP members affected by the fires. Funds will be deposited into the beneficiaries account by direct deposit. Items purchased, as/if determined by the committee, will have receipts and fully accountable transactions as published on updates below and also on our website at www.afpfma.org.au. We will not specifically identify beneficiaries but mention person ‘A’, couple ‘B’, family C etc.

The AFPFMA is currently calling for input/information on any former AFP member/s impacted by the bush fires.  We will then publish information for our our members to see and seek their involvement contribution.

Please note: There is no legal impediment in the distribution of funds or real property from this GoFundMe site to our affected former AFP members outside the ACT. Funds raised will be distributed by the Australian Federal Police Former Members Association (Incorporated) committee to beneficiaries all over Australia.  A small sub committee will set up a simple set of rules for eligibility and distribution, and all beneficiaries will be discussed at the committee meeting. The sub committee will complete an allocation/distribution document for all members of the committee to see, discuss and agree.  This information will be distributed to our members for their information and comment, with a sunset clause for final action.

So that no one misses out, the AFPFMA will wait to distribute final funds, and see if anyone else needs assistance until the end of summer or the 2020 bush fire season finishes (whichever comes last).

We will then advise the membership when the funds have been distributed and finalised.  We will present a zero account balance from the Go Fund Me account at the end of the financial year. An entry will be made in our annual report about the process with the recipients names being protected from publication, but sighted by our auditor along with receipts for the funds.
