Today the AFP Former Members Association received a lovely letter of thanks from one of our beneficiaries of our bush fire appeal. We thought that we would like to share it with all those who contributed to this massive gesture of good will which raised a total of $19,116.72.

“Thank you so much for the donation made possible by your members contributions. Please pass on my thanks to each of the members who contributed and tell them how very thankful I am.

My home was purchased by my husband and I in the late 1980’s and is where my three children all grew up.

We all have a lot of great memories of our time in Cobargo and are of course very sad that we lost our home in the fire.

My son, his partner and my two year old granddaughter were down for Christmas from Townsville where he is a combat engineer in the army. After being woken I felt “that something was not right” we left our home in Cobargo about 4am on New Years Day. As we left we could see the flames which were huge and were approx 3 hundred metres from our home.

We all drove to Bermagui where we stayed for two and a half days. The time that we spent in Bermagui was stressful as the days were as black as night with a red angry glow. It was not until our second night in Bermagui that we learnt that our home had been totally destroyed by the fire.

Thankfully our home was insured for both home and contents and our insurance company was excellent.

At the moment I am renting a small home in Bega whilst I make some decisions about the future. The donation from your members will be used on warm clothes, doonas and other necessities as it will soon be quite cold down here.

Once again Mike please pass on my thanks and Best wishes to all the members of AFPFMA and I will be filling out the membership application over this weekend.

My best regards to you all.”
